Individualized Behavior Analysis
Welcome! My name is Christian Sawyer and I’m excited to collaborate with you to create meaningful and lasting improvements on your therapeutic goals.
Feeling stuck? Is it hard to try something you’ve been meaning to? Difficult to get out of a cycle? Is this impacting your work life, social life, and progress towards where you feel you should be? There are factors here that can be explored and worked on to turn that corner, and the changes will stick because it is you who takes the steps and actions to meet your goals. No specific diagnosis needed, even sub-clinical needs can use some help!
I specialize in behavior analysis, a science-backed method of therapy where we dive into why you do what you do, interpret the past and present factors, and figure out how to shift it effectively using a constructivist view of human behavior. A key part of this is identifying the reasons behind specific behavioral patterns (things that could have been building up for a long time); whether they’re helping you cope, avoid, or meet a need. Doing the same old things and thinking the same old ways are going to lead to the same results. That’s where change is needed. We will break down the past and the present, and work towards steps for a better future. You’ll adopt changes that stick because we’ll make them feel natural and personalized with you in the driver’s seat. Together, we’ll track your progress with precise, data-driven results, analyzing your behavior across different situations to craft strategies that match your goals. Whether you’re tackling obstacles or developing new skills, our collaborative analysis, enriched by these assessments, will provide clear, actionable steps, keeping you confident and engaged every step of the way.
The ACTraining (ACTr) program, short for Acceptance and Commitment Training, is a unique offering designed for building independence, resilience, and emotional flexibility. We’ll use behavior analysis to understand how your thoughts (internal behaviors) and actions (external behaviors) connect to your daily life and what functions they serve. What are you currently doing that is useful to you? What might not be? Then, we’ll weave in acceptance and commitment skills, working as a team to help you embrace tough feelings and focus on what matters most to you. Together, we’ll figure out how to accept what can’t change, commit to actions that reflect your values, and move forward with purpose, ensuring you’re ready to thrive.
Curious about how we can team up for your specific needs? I offer a personalized (free) consultation to get us started. During our consultation, we’ll sit down together, talk about your goals, and conduct an initial interview and assessment, to see what’s working, what’s not, and why. In a friendly, professional space, I’ll build a clear, customized plan with you and share data from past successes—like how the tool box of behavior analysis, including ACTraining and behavioral momentum, have helped others through our joint efforts and targeted assessments. It’s our chance to see how my expertise can blend with your vision. I also offer family focused parent training to help work on social and life skills for individuals under the age of 18.
I’m all about partnering with you to do more than just solve problems; I want us to help you flourish. With our shared focus on what works best for you, we’ll create a roadmap that’s uniquely yours. Ready to team up? Contact me today, and let’s make progress together!
FAQs
How are the sessions conducted?
Sessions are conducted online via secure video conferencing platform (doxy.me), ensuring convenience and accessibility for clients anywhere.
What is behavior analysis?
Behavior analysis is a natural scientific discipline that studies the behavior of individuals focusing on understanding, explaining, describing, and predicting behavior, with a particular emphasis on how learning, personal history, and environmental factors influence patterns of behavior today.
What commitment is required?
A commitment to services requires regular attendance to sessions, openness to exploration and change, and a willingness to actively apply learned strategies in daily life for optimal results.
How does this differ from “talk therapies”?
Key differences are that behavior analysis uses objective and action-oriented targets, using analysis and skills to directly modify what you do, backed by data (e.g., frequency of a behavior pre- and post-intervention). “Talk therapies” lean subjective, aiming to shift how you think or feel through discussion, with progress gauged more qualitatively (e.g., self-reported mood). While we do address internal events like emotion and mood, outward changes are key. Usable skills are gained through practice, planning, tracking, and reinforcement.
How much does it cost?
Fees vary based on the program, additional materials, and duration. Sliding scale options apply. For detailed pricing and packages, please reach out.
How do I know if it is working?
Real world progress is key. It’s not just feeling better, it’s doing as well. Data collection is a huge part of the process, which tracks observable and measurable behaviors are used to show real progress over time. We use real world goals that you can see and feel.
